Free LGBT+ themed game

Family Dinner is a free-to-play interactive-fiction game developed by a 17-year old young developer, Tom Hosford. This narrative-based game will surely hit home, most especially for those who are part of the LGBT+ community. It is a well-recognized game that got featured in various game websites such as Checkpoint Gaming and Gayming Magazine. On top of that, it snatched a finalist nomination in the Game Making Award of the prestigious BAFTA 2020 Young Game Designers competition.

A short, engrossing and relatable game plotline

This story-driven game reflects all the struggles that most in the LGBT+ community experiences even just once in their life. You will take on the role of Tobias, a young closeted transgender man who got into an argument with his close-minded family members regarding his sexuality. It is a ‘choose-your-own-answer simulator that is rife with intense text conversations among the members in the middle of a family dinner.

Family Dinner is a short game that playtime ranges from 15 to 20 minutes. But those few minutes will contain distressing scenes and triggering contents, especially for trans people, as it consists of instances of transphobia. You will also hear non-diegetic sounds such as intense heartbeats and clinking of dinner plates with cutlery.

Family Dinner raises awareness about a situation that is often overlooked by non-LGBT people. This is why every circumstance that this game showcase has been real and raw. It doesn’t only successfully pass the knowledge, but it also powerfully deliver the message to stop the stigma towards the LGBT+ community. If you are familiar with the Coming Out Simulator game, then you will probably be reminded of it once you play this game.

Put yourself in the shoe of LGBT+ community

Family Dinner will make you realize tons of things, whether you are part of the LGBT+ community or not. It is an interesting and eye-opener game that will make your playtime worthwhile. As noted, however, it contains scenes offending to the members of the LGBT+ community.
